ABOUT THE MINISTRY

The Need

The Northern part of the Kenya is a desert region and one of the poorest and least developed regions in Kenya. It’s almost impossible for the population to have a stable income by farming. Most of the ethnic groups live a half nomadic lifestyle living mainly on animal breeding.

Because the region has few resources, the Kenyan Government  invests very little money in the development of the Marsabit County. The young people have little hope for a successful life in Marsabit County. Most of them try to build up a life in the cities – far from their roots and home.

Northern Kenya is a large area of Kenya that has few all season roads, little phone connections, and many illiterate people.  The living is harsh, but people are beginning to hunger and hope for the Gospel, education, and ways to initiate self-improvement. Thus, Tirrim Schools opened  beginning with nursery level (kindergarten) and going through secondary (high school).

Students come from many tribes:  the Boran, the Samburu, the Rendille, the Gabra, the Somali, and others.  Many live in extreme poverty as well as in spiritual darkness.

The schools in northern Kenya have a reputation for producing the poorest results nation- wide in the KSPE and KCSE national exams each year due to the poor quality of education available. However, Tirrim Primary School has had the highest scores in the county for years.  The closest high school to Korr has continually been the lowest in the county. Tirrim High School has been able to produce university level students.  Tirrim schools have been able to provide quality education in an area poverty struck for good teaching.

Tirrim Schools

In 1980 AIC church began the nursery school. In 2004 the Tirrim primary began. The primary schools (elementary) grew quickly to over 200 students. Seeing there was such a need for a quality high school for these students, in 2009 the Tirrim secondary was started.

In 2017, the Tirrim Group of Schools now consists of several nursery classes, one main primary school, another branch primary school, and a high school. Currently there are a total of 640 students.

For the first time in the history of this area, children have the opportunity to learn at quality schools. They have a chance to move ahead in life and bring up the standard of living for their families that they care deeply about.

Most importantly, these schools are Christian schools – under the Africa Inland Church. Education is provided with God’s word playing a central role in the purpose and plan. In each course of study, students are taught how God's character is revealed.

The Strategy

  1. Teach and minister to the students that God has placed in our care through Tirrim Christian School.

  2. Equip and send out students back to their families to spread the Gospel

  3. Work along side the local church to help mentor and disciple

  4. Create close relationships with families in the Korr area.
